Checkpoint, an investor-funded creative technology and art installation, aims to revitalize analog interaction in a post-COVID world.
As the Product Designer and UX Writer for Checkpoint Pictures, I led the design and prototyping of a hybrid physical-digital photo booth product, taking it from concept to market launch. I crafted the copy for the landing page, privacy policy, and user flow, ensuring clear and consistent communication across the product. My work focused on seamlessly integrating physical and digital elements to create an engaging user experience that bridges analog and digital interactions. The portable, free photo booth prints black-and-white photos on receipt paper, with QR codes linking to high-quality digital versions online. With over 8,000 users across four cities, three permanent locations in Chicago and New York, and ongoing installations in New York and Brooklyn, the project continues to expand, offering a unique and accessible experience to all.
I optimized content strategies that significantly enhanced user engagement, such as changing the copy on the receipt to "your digital image," which increased user clicks by 40%, and updating the box messaging to "take a free pic here," boosting user retention by 30%. I developed these strategies to align with both user needs and the overarching vision of the product, ensuring that every interaction within the photo booth experience was intuitive and engaging. I organized and structured content with a strong focus on information architecture, allowing users to navigate seamlessly from the physical interaction with the photo booth to the digital experience online. My expertise in user flow mapping played a crucial role in guiding users through the entire Checkpoint experience, from capturing their photos to accessing their digital copies. By crafting thoughtful microcopy, adhering to accessibility standards, and utilizing A/B testing, I ensured that every element of the Checkpoint experience was user-friendly, engaging, and aligned with our design goals.
