Checkpoint is a creative venture that started from a collboration between Jasper Richards, Nicolas Rinn, and me in 2022.
We initially designed, constructed, programmed, and placed each box by hand, striving to reinvigorate analog interaction in the physical world, something we believe is especially important in an increasingly digital, domestic, post-COVID society.
The Checkpoint camera is the first portable, instant, and free receipt photo machine. It prints photos on receipt paper, so 500 photos cost only around a dollar. In addition to the black-and-white photo, each receipt has a QR code that takes users to a personal link where they can download a high-quality digital version with beautiful colors.
Three years later, with almost 100 locations worldwide, we’ve crossed over half a million photos and grown our team to a dozen. We still make sure to have a personal relationship with each of our locations, creating a node network of third spaces across the globe. This project is extremely important to me and has profoundly changed my life.
